The Mueller report has not calmed the partisan enmity roiling Washington.
Many in Congress complain about Mueller not reaching a prosecutorial decision on the issue of obstruction of justice, thus leaving Attorney General William Barr to determine that actions by President Trump did not reach a criminal threshold.
But who wrote the rules for such investigations?
“If Congress does not like the decision, because it was made by the attorney general,” explained Jacob Frenkel, an attorney who formerly worked in the independent counsel’s office, “Congress has only itself to blame for not renewing the independent counsel statute.”
“Analysts noted that lawmakers, in effect, gave Barr authority over Mueller when they let the independent counsel law expire in 1999,” reports The Washington Post. “That law created a prosecutor position with even more autonomy than Mueller, who was appointed under more restrictive special counsel regulations.”
Of course, in 1999, Republicans controlled both houses of Congress. Had they a crystal ball to see 20 years into the future, for partisan reasons they might celebrate that they allowed that law to lapse.
Then again, Democrats have controlled both houses since then, even sporting a filibuster-proof Senate majority in 2009. Yet did nothing to legislate a solution to the problem they see today.
My point isn’t to bemoan the special counsel or independent counsel statute, about which good people might disagree. Instead, let us acknowledge the essential role our system reserves for Congress. Yes, again and again, from tariff policy to foreign policy to these current issues, Congress punts its power away to the executive and judiciary branches.
And then cries about it.
Well, wipe your eyes, solons: it’s We the People who feel the pain.
This is Common Sense. I’m Paul Jacob.

Lavrentiy Beria, head of Joseph Stalin’s secret police and hero of the left, once said, ” “Show me the man, and I’ll show you the crime.” He was aware that if you dig deeply into anybody’s history you will find some failing worthy of prosecution. America’s Democrats swear by Beria’s words and, therefore, launched a two-year long baseless investigation on Trump. Despite the best efforts of nineteen Democrat investigators over that time, they were unable to find anything on the President. Undeterred, they now focus on his tax returns in the years before he even became President. They’re obviously conducting this effort simply for show. They’re fully aware that Obama long since weaponized the IRS against any and all of his adversaries, and if there was a whit of anomaly in any of Trump’s returns it would have been leaked during the 2016 election. Where they will strike next is yet to be decided.
But it is interesting that the same people who are hellbent on examining every phase of Trump’s life are the same people who were equally determined to hide every aspect of Obama’s life. It didn’t matter that he registered for college as a foreign exchange student, or that he held a Connecticut Social Security number. It didn’t matter that he went to considerable time and effort to hide his birth certificate, and finally presented an obvious fake that satisfied everybody in Washington. Nobody questioned how he became president of the prestigious Harvard law review without ever publishing an article, nor is it considered curious that almost none of his fellow students have any memory of him.
Get your head out of the sand! You are an IDIOT if you think Trump did nothing wrong. He would be indicted if not for the DOJ policy to not indict a sitting president.
Trump Derangement Syndrome (Urban Dictionary)
“A mental condition in which a person has been driven effectively insane due to their dislike of Donald Trump, to the point at which they will abandon all logic and reason. Symptoms for this condition can be very diverse, ranging from hysterical outbursts to a complete mental break.”
I thought Drumpf derangement syndrome was when REPUBLIKOOKS ate Drumpf’s feces and say it tastes like “steak.” Appears you are infected!
It’s my understanding that you cannot indict a sitting president. Mueller did the right thing and left Congress with its right to “indict”, or rather impeach a sitting president.
As the posts on your site indicate, the people are not only crying, they are as divided & bickering just like Congress.
Personally sick of it all. I’m happier when I’m not looking at this confederacy of dunces that have been elected… many of them too long ago. Let’s move forward for the sake of the constituents.
