JFK Won

Montana was admitted into the United States federal union as the 41st state on November 8, 1889. On the same date in 1960, John F. Kennedy defeated Richard Nixon in one of the closest presidential elections of the 20th century, becoming the 35th president of the United States.

One reply on “JFK Won”

Democrats and Republicans seem to have engaged in a significant amount of election fraud in 1960, so the sense in which JFK may be said to have “won” should be considered.

Had Nixon been declared the winner, certainly the world would be a different place. The US probably would have added air-support to the Bay of Pigs invasion but the bogus claim of a missile-gap would not have interfered with arms-control talks with the Soviet Union. An ongoing struggle over Cuba would have limited US involvement in Viet-Nam. The super-Keynesianism of Heller &alii would not have been undertaken. The US space programme would almost surely have been more restrained. Johnson would have been investigated and destroyed. The Mafia would not have come under much-if-any increased scrutiny. A major civil rights law would have passed, but not applied to private association. The disastrous War on Poverty would not have begun.
