Crimes committed yesterday at the capitol should be prosecuted.
Let’s make that the rule from now on, not the exception.
I’m not suggesting long prison terms for trespassing, smashing windows, small-scale vandalism. But we have a right (and almost a duty) to insist that people respect the lives and property of others, no exceptions.
That’s Civilization 101.
Last summer, I think the cavalier attitude displayed by many public officials (Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler comes to mind) — and media outlets — toward looting and riots, as well as intimidation and violence directed at innocent individuals sent the wrong signal to … bad people on all sides.
Mostly peaceful protest isn’t good enough.
As the dust settles, we will learn more and discuss further. Note that as I put this and myself to bed last night, Congress was back at work but not yet finished certifying the Electoral College results.
Speaking of doing one’s job, in yesterday’s chaos, I witnessed one policemen apply some finesse to protecting the capitol — by de-escalating the tense situation. The mob he confronted refused to heed his instruction to leave the capitol. As the officer retreated up the stairs, they were on his heels. To delay their advance and stop them from overtaking him, he would turn upon reaching each floor’s threshold and threaten them with his baton.
But he didn’t hit them. If would have been disastrous for him to do so, because even with a baton he was badly outmanned: mob against one.
Soon, however, he was able to get to reinforcements, who together appeared to block the insurgents.
A few moments of wise restraint. Too rare these days.
Not to mention some fancy footwork.
This is Common Sense. I’m Paul Jacob.

At least two of the troublemakers at the capital have been identified as most likely antifa. One matches pictures from the riots out west.
Of course the MSM is blaming Trump supporters.
Let’s look at a little reality, along with the blame tossing. The riots that we have had for a year, now, were were sponsored and supported by the DSoA and the media to the tune of 2 billion dollars of public and private property damage and many people purposely looked the other way. Their cause was to burn, loot, murder and terrorize for the socialist cause.
What we had on the Jan 6 was a few hundred, out of the 200,000, in attendance, who allowed their emotions to overrule their reason and decided to go over the top and break the law. They at least had the aggravated motivation of being crookedly deprived of their voting rights, and seeing the end of their republic and their constitutional rights. This will never be a peaceful transition of power and shouldn’t be. There will never be unity with a takeover like this.
At least, the radicals who are our new government are honest enough to tell us about their planned purges of dissenters. This is, I believe, the first time in history that socialists were allowed to take over a country without a civil war on their hands. ‘Not with a bang or even a whimper’.
This is the most shameful moment in United States history. The profound sorrow, felt by knowledgeable people for the loss of the beloved country that many of us fought, bled and died to preserve will last for the rest of their lives and beyond.
My life began in a different century, in a country called The United States of America… Now, I know not where I am. My belief in the Almighty is all I have left but it will be enough to get me through.
Unfortunately, that horse (restraint) left the barn long ago.
Nancy Pelosi actually called (in a passive way, of course) for ‘uprisings’ all around the country over two years ago.
In 2018, Nancy Pelosi told reporters she didn’t know why there weren’t “uprisings” over the issue of family separations at the southern border.
“I just don’t even know why there aren’t uprisings all over the country, and maybe there will be when people realize that this is a policy that they defend,” Pelosi said during a press conference. “It’s a horrible thing, and I don’t see any prospect for legislation here.”
Then we have AOC telling us that protests are supposed to make people ‘uncomfortable’.
Even people in the media, like Chris Cuomo, have glorified violence.
Chris Cuomo said, “Please, show me where it says protesters are supposed to be polite and peaceful.”
Of course they have all changed their tune, since Biden was elected.
At what point are the rest of us allowed to invoke our right to self-defense instead of always turning the other cheek? Rule of law is all but dead in this once great country. One side riots at will and the other side is told to sit down and shut up.
