Out in the countryside, seeing men carry around rifles and knives and such excites the nerves of no one except (maybe) some ungulates. In urban and suburban areas, though, most five-toe-per-foot folk have become used to not seeing people dressed to kill, so to speak.
That’s one reason for conceal carry laws, allowing people to carry guns legally, but concealed. Very civilized, and it makes criminals think twice.
But here’s a wrinkle: Openly carrying weapons is perfectly legal in all sorts of places. Wisconsin’s Attorney General wrote a memorandum, not long ago, saying that residents may indeed openly carry guns on Wisconsin streets.
Oddly, the state prohibits concealed carry by citizens.
Worse yet, some local police have no intention of abiding by the law. Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Harris made the news, saying, “My message to my troops is if you see anybody carrying a gun on the streets of Milwaukee, we’ll put them on the ground, take the gun away and then decide whether [they] have a right to carry it.”
Harris is worried about his city’s murder rate. So, he’s willing to commit crimes to prevent murder.
We all know where he’s coming from. But, I wonder. Has Harris thought this through? I bet that most murders in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, were committed by people illegally carrying guns, concealed, not by those openly carrying them.
This is Common Sense. I’m Paul Jacob.

As with many big city police chiefs around the nation, for you it’s the law, for them it’s only a sugjestion.
First of all, some of us contry-folk still have all of our digits, and better yet some of us have MBA’s and PhD’s and have started multi-million dollar companies. But to the topic at hand, Hariris not only broke the law, he violated the Constitution. “The right to bear arms will NOT be infringed.” (emphasis mine) I say fire him and lock him up. As for open carry, I wish everyone would. Then we’d get past the stigma of fearing someone with a gun and criminals would think twice knowing that even if someone is unarmed, everyone else around isn’t and is ready to put a few holes in you for the crime they just saw you commit. Is this taking law into our own hands? No, it’s using common sense to remove government and liberal induced fear in the everyday citizen and instill fear in the would-be criminal. Want proof that it works? Look at the states with the lowest violent crime rates. ALL of them have open carry laws. The states with the highest, have concealed or stricter gun control laws. It’s time to use common sense people!
I agree with Matt.
Anyone in a rush to vacation in Wisconsin to enhance their economy and leave tax dollars there this summer?!
If “Wisconsin’s Attorney General wrote a memorandum, not long ago, saying that residents may indeed openly carry guns on Wisconsin streets” and a Wisconsin citizen is thrown to the ground by a Milwaukee police officer under an official policy created by Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Harris, there is a clear case of false arrest and violation of civil rights. It won’t be long before some Wisconsin citizen tests this law and the resulting civil-rights lawsuit can be made against the officers and the chief of police as individuals, which would preclude them using government funds to defend themselves — and since they are personally liable for criminal acts they can lose their homes, their bank accounts, their pensions, and their family’s security. Someone should inform Chief Harris of this personal liability.
Good to hear from you Paul. It was a pleasure to meet you at the Sammies!
I used to be from the Milwaukee area. Governor Doyle (we’re getting close to getting him RECalled http://www.RecallDoyle.com)said that we don’t need conceal carry because it is “perfectly legal to carry any gun we want out in the open.”
Don’t you just love the twisted form of lying spin that people from the darkside of the force convey. The ones who ultimately stick up for the criminal over the law-abiding righteous who believe in “Natural Law” and the unique American Culture that has been blessed through and by it.
I hope to meet and discuss economic, world/American heritage and civic matters with you again in the future.
Take care, Paul
Very truly yours in FREEDOM,

To declare that in the administration of criminal law the end justifies the means — to declare that the Government may commit crimes in order to secure conviction of a private criminal — would bring terrible retribution.

This looks like an excellent money making proposition! Get rousted by the cops for a LEGAL carry, then sue the city.…and the state. Bingo! Retire early! ( After the necessary legal wranglings)
Who is Chief Harris? The Milwaukee police chief is Ed Flynn!
