The Tea Party’s House Republicans have begun work, outlining a “plan to attack the federal deficit. The result: A proposal to cut $100 billion,” which amounts, in the words of Tom Mullen, on LewRockwell.com, to a mere “[s]even percent of the deficit.”
Disappointing. But wait, Mullen goes on, “if history has taught us anything, it is that this isn’t ‘just the beginning,’ with more substantial cuts to follow. This will be the high water mark as far as reduction in government spending is concerned.”
Mullen then offers an alternative venue: The states should unite in defiance of Washington, authorizing and defending citizens who withhold income tax payments until Congress balances the budget. He calls this “interposition.”
Radical, yes. But it will prove even less effective than our first House’s first foray.
Why? Many of the states are in just as bad a financial shape — or worse — than the federal union, and are presumably right now primping for federal bailouts.
What to do?
Brew stronger tea.
And throw it at Congress.
No state bailouts. The only thing the House can do, alone, is prevent more debt. Don’t raise the debt ceiling, and force President Obama and Democrats in the Senate to take budget cuts seriously — big budget cuts — now.
As I wrote a few days ago, let’s put the federal government onto a cash, pay-as-you go finance plan immediately. This would require, certainly, no small amount of courage from House Republicans.
Brew stronger tea.
This is Common Sense. I’m Paul Jacob.

The only thing, at this point in time to do, is to have the “red” states begin to ceceed from the union! Time to bail folks…as the liberal progressives are going to drive this country into bankruptcy and destroy all our freedoms.
No raising of the debt ceiling makes sense.
Therefore not a snowball’s chance that Congress will do it.
We got to get our house in order. The tone of this commentary, with which I agree entirely, is “maybe, maybe not.” Stronger tea, indeed!
Defecate or get off the pot. The Tea Party spoke. Hear it… or face consequences the NEXT time we get to go to the polls and vote… and vote we shall, c’est no?
Cutting the corporate tax? What a fab idea. Please cut it by at least 50%… so that consumers (that’s us) don’t have to pony it up. Result? Lower prices. Wouldn’t that be novel as inflation isn’t coming… it’s here right now. Do you buy gasoline and groceries? Are you paying more? I am.
Egypt: FEED these people and send them home. Egypt is the largest importer of wheat in the world. Shall they eat cake?
We subsidize ethanol to the tune of $1.78/gallon. Wheat farmers are abandoning wheat for corn to get this subsidy. Isn’t the inevitable result rather obvious?
Meanwhile, Egypt can’t afford bread. Stop subsidizing their military and send these people food.
Obama: a real profile in courage, huh? (Uh… not!) Tune in to Fox News to hear Hillary Clinton’s latest opinion. Has she got anything to say of any consequence? No.
AMEN!
Amen, to everything you said. I could not agree more. I’m tired of paying most of the taxes and watching it being flushed down a rat hole. I stopped making ordinary income, and am donating my cap gains and div. income to charity’s who have more respect for my donations than congress.
I think there are three words that you never hear anymore in this culture, responsibility, consequences and last but not least priortities. If these were restored to their proper place in our language we would not be having these problems.
Keep up the faith and the never ending good work.

In my view, asking the REPUBLICANS in Congress to be responsible is ONLY A LITTLE FUNNY THEN ASKING THAT OF DEMOCRATS.
IT WAS TOM DE LAY (- TEXAS-NOW PRISON)-WHO MADE EARMARKS THE BIGGEST BOONDAGGLE THAT THEY ARE– BEFORE, THEY WERE MUCH SMALLER.
IT WAS DE LAY WHO MADE THE LOBBYIST HIRE EX REPUBLICAN MEMBERS OF CONGRESS AND/OR PARTY AHCKS, TO GET AN “AUDIANCE’.
PELOSI & REID MIGHT HAVE EXPANDED HIS PALYBOOK, HE STARTED IT.
AND LOOK AT SOME OF THE FORMER GOP LEADERS (?)- AND THEIR OFFSPIRNG- THE NAME ESCAPES ME AT THE MOMENT- WAS EHAD- FROM MISSISSIPPI- FEELS DE MINT IS A DISASTER, AS IS TEA PARTY VIEWS; SPARKMAN- DECEASED- HIS SON IS 9OR WAS) HEAD OF COTTON GROWERS, PUSHING FOR MORE SUBSIDIES; THE LSIT COULD GO ON. MC CAIN- AGAINST EARMARKS BUT THOUGHT CAP & TRADE A GOOD IDEA.
AND LET US NOT FORGET THE REPUBLICANS (?) WHO SABOTAGED OTHERS- CONSIDERING (IN MY VIEW- SUCH GREAT POLITICAL MIONDS AS MC CAIN’S DAUGHTER) WHO FELT THAT THE CANDIDATE IN DELAWARE WAS A JOKE, AND OTHER SUCH MARVELOUS COMMENTS.
AND HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS? BORN TO THE LUCKY EGG CLUB – MOMMY BEING A MULTI MILLIONAIRE/
THE GOP IS AS ALMSOT AS SMELLY AS THE DEMS.
