One of my friends, Charles Denis Kaufman, used to work as a courier. He would take jokes to Bob Hope from Hope’s gag-writers. Charles couldn’t resist the temptation to slip a few jokes of his own into the batch. Hope liked them, and his staff realized that the person who must be including them was the courier. Thus Charles got a job as a gag-writer.
(A great story, but Charles discovered that trying to be funny on-demand was very stressful.)
