Jamaican independence

On August 6, 1962, Jamaica became independent of Great Britain.

In 1991, on this date, Tim Berners-Lee released files describing his idea for the World Wide Web, and put up the first website, running on a NeXT computer at CERN, in France.

The specification of HTML by Berners-Lee was not internally consistent; he confused the concept of line-break with that of the start of a paragraph, and so “” was used as if it were somehow each.

Perhaps more importantly, Berners-Lee was offering what amounted to the combination of three ideas: a file line the account .profile of UNIX, a very simple mark-up language, and inter-file links. Others would take this combination and do more interesting things than merely to create enhanced account profiles, and some of these other folk were the geniuses who turned that combination of three ideas into a marvel.
